Martina Silvester

Martina Silvester is a musician, music educator, author and presenter. She lives in Munich and Paris. Just as she combines these two countries, she also brings her various interests and talents together in her projects: Music, writing, acting and presenting.
A charismatic and versatile flutist, Martina is also widely recognized for her exceptional teaching skills. She gives masterclasses and workshops worldwide, including at the prestigious Miyazawa Academy.
She completed her classical flute training with Prof. Henkel-Adorján and her piccolo studies with N. Schwaabe at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. She earned a Master’s degree in flute and a concert diploma in baroque flute under Prof. Schmidt-Casdorff. Martina also studied at the École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris with Professors Artaud and Kim, where she obtained the Diplôme de Concertiste in flute.
Driven by a deep interest in other cultures and musical styles, Martina regularly undertakes further training in various genres and techniques, including tango and improvisation.
As an orchestral musician, she has performed with numerous renowned orchestras across different countries and under the direction of distinguished conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, Krzysztof Penderecki, Friedrich Haider, Shlomo Mintz, Pavel Klinichev, and Markus Poschner. In addition to her orchestral work, Martina enjoys performing as a soloist with chamber ensembles, including the Munich Bach Orchestra.
Chamber music is a major part of her musical career: together with pianist Susanna Klovsky and bassist Alex Bayer, she founded the Clazzic ensemble (flute, piano, double bass, drums). The ensemble’s music has its roots in classical music, but does not shy away from playful competition with other musical styles such as jazz, instead seeking new paths from their intersections and differences.
She performs with harpist Feodora Johanna Mandel as Duo Naiades. The two musicians are not only united by their love of chamber music, but also by their motivation to create programs that dramatically approach a theme such as “The World of Pan” or “Between Heaven and Earth”. The duo’s repertoire ranges from medieval music to improvisation and Ravi Shankar.
Under the name Leilani, Martina revives the spirit of salon culture by bringing musicians together in interdisciplinary and themed programs. These often juxtapose baroque and contemporary music, spotlight compositions by women, or reinterpret classical forms like the piano trio with flute. Instrumentation varies—from duo to quartet—and includes flute with piano, strings, and more.
In 2017, Martina Silvester made her Japanese debut as a soloist with the Munich Bach Orchestra. She performed in renowned concert halls such as the Tokyo Opera City Hall and Izumi Hall Osaka.
Martina Silvester is a prizewinner of the 24th Osaka International Music Competition in the woodwind category.
A powerful stage presence and a desire to deeply move her audiences are hallmarks of Martina’s artistry.

She is also regularly invited to festivals such as the Porto Heli Festival in Greece, the History, Music and Memory Festival in Israel and the Querwind Festival in Germany.
Martina is especially passionate about creating themed and interdisciplinary programs.
